The Spooner’s and West Dartmoor is a trail hunt centred on Tavistock on the western edge of Dartmoor, England. The Country extends from Postbridge in the east to Gulworthy in the west and from Okehampton in the north to Plymouth in the south. More than half the country consists of high moorland, which is generally trail hunted on Saturdays, and the rest in-land farms with high hedge banks separating small mainly grass fields and steep heavily wooded valleys. The rivers Dart, Walkham, Tavy, Lyd and West Okement all rise within the boundaries.
We welcome all ages whether you would like to follow on a horse or on foot and when not trail hunting we hold a variety of social events to to appeal to all.

Friday 21st May – Inter Hunt Relay at Devon County Show – come and support our riders and runners at this ever-popular speed jumping, running and leaping event in the main ring.
Wednesday 27th May – Clear round jumping at Kennels
Sunday 31st May – Moorland fun ride with a Pimm’s stop at Vixen Tor, Approx 10 miles – well flagged route £20pp, under 16 £15 – refreshments available – Start venue & time to follow
Friday 9th June – Inter Hunt Relay at the Royal Cornwall Show – come and support our young riders at this exciting speed jumping and obstacle event in the Horse Ring.
Saturday June 20th – Hound & terrier racing, lurcher & dog show – Meavy
Wednesday 24th June – Clear round jumping at Kennels
Wednesday 22nd July – Clear round jumping at Kennels
Saturday 25th July – Inland fun ride Bere Peninsula – Approx 10 miles – well flagged route £20pp, under 16 £15 – refreshments available – Start venue & time to follow
Saturday 8th August – Annual Speed Shear competition and evening entertainment with BBQ and Bar.
Saturday 5th September – Pony racing with the Dartmoor Hill Pony Association and a Shetland Pony Performance team racing on a Saturday afternoon – early evening. Venue to be confirmed.
